Inequality in Indonesia has reached record levels, with its growth among the most rapid in the region. What is driving this inequality, and what does Indonesian society look like as a result? How is the Joko Widodo government addressing inequality, and do its policies differ to those of Jokowi’s predecessor Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono?

In this week’s Talking Indonesia podcast I explore these issues with Dr Matthew Wai-Poi, senior economist in the poverty unit at the World Bank in Jakarta, and lead author of the World Bank report, Indonesia’s Rising Divide.

Look out for a new Talking Indonesia podcast every fortnight, hosted alternately by Dr Dave McRae and Dr Ken Setiawan. Catch up on previous episodes here, subscribe via iTunes or listen to the entire Talking Indonesia podcast via Stitcher.
