How do Chinese Indonesians perceive China’s rise, and how does it affect their position in Indonesian society? Have Chinese Indonesians been part of the Jokowi government’s project to deepen ties with China?

In this Talking Indonesia podcast episode, I explore these issues with Dr Charlotte Setijadi, author of the forthcoming book Memories of Unbelonging: Collective Trauma and Chinese Identity Politics in Indonesia. Dr Setijadi is a postdoctoral fellow in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Nanyang Technological University and will soon move to the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS), also in Singapore.
